(Including Starfleet Academy)
Ryoko Jade enrolled in Starfleet Academy in 2363. She graduated in 2367
in the top 25% of her class and was commissioned as an Ensign in Starfleet. Her
first post was onboard the New Orleans class frigate USS Renegade as a pilot for
the 452th squadron, the Fighting Phoenix, flying Peregrin class strike fighters.
The Renegade patrolled the furthest extents of Federation borders. She flew
mainly patrol and escort missions, a few combat missions against pirates as
well. During this time she became romantically involved with a fellow squadron
pilot, Jefferson Hawkings, which lasted for almost a year in secret. Ryoko and
Jefferson did not part on the best of terms when their relationship ended, Ryoko
having discovered he had been cheating on her with a member of the squadrons
maintenance crew. During the next few weeks the hostility between Ryoko and
Jefferson grew and came finally came to blows when she confronted him on the
matter. She was suspended from duty and reprimanded for assaulting a fellow
officer after she had pummeled Hawking into the deck
plating.
After 3 months suspension Ryoko was transferred to a 119th Warlock
squadron aboard the USS Macbeth and allowed to fly again. She soon proved
herself to her new crew, casting aside any doubts they had for her when she
defended a shuttle under attack by Orion pirates. For her action she was
promoted to Lieutenant junior grade.
In 2369 Ryoko was promoted to full lieutenant. Near the end of that year
she was transferred to Star base 257 to undergo command training in preparation
for her assuming an Executive roll in a fighter squadron. She spent the next few
months in a combat tactics refresher course and squadron command training. In
2370 she was assigned to VFA-83 Ironclaw squadron aboard USS Vanguard NCC-2603
as Squadron XO. The Vanguard, an older Excelsior class starship was assigned to
inner patrol sectors. The next few years were quiet and Ryoko saw little
action. In 2373 she was promoted to Lt. Commander and assigned command Ironclaw
squadron when its previous commander retired from
Starfleet.
With the outbreak of the Dominion war the Vanguard was reassigned to the
front line as part of the 3rd Fleet. Ryoko and her squadron saw heavy combat and
losses in the opening phases of the war. In one particular battle she and her
squadron mates found themselves cut off from the fleet and the Vanguard as enemy
forces drove the Federation fleet from the system. Pursued by enemy forces and
knowing their chances of escape and rejoining the fleet to be close to none
Ryoko ordered her squadron to ground on the first M class planet they could find
in the system. There they hid from hunting Dominion troops for five weeks. With
supplies and rations running low Ryoko took a chance and ordered her people
packed up and in the air. Her squadron made a frantic rush for deep space and
jumped to warp with Dominion attack ships hot on their tails. The abandoned
squadron managed to make it back across friendly lines and was soon reunited
with its command ship.
During the fiercest combat in the war, the USS Vanguard was lost in a sneak
attack, while part of a system defense picket around Star base 263. Caught
surprised the ship was hit with its shields down and stricken within a few
minutes. Other starships from the picket managed to come to the Vanguards aid in
time to prevent its destruction, but not soon enough to save over half the crew,
which were killed when the main impulse drive overloaded and detonated,
splitting the starship in half. Ryoko was badly wounded during the explosion,
her ribcage crushed, all of her limbs broken and several internal organs
punctured. She almost died before she reached the rescuing starships sickbay. It
took 2 months for her to recover from her injuries. During that time her
squadron was re-staffed by Starfleet Command. By the time she was well enough to
pilot again her and her squadron were assigned to the USS Paladin NCC-63221,
where they served out the remainder of the war. Ryoko participated in the final
battle over Cardassia Prime; again she almost lost her life when her Peregrin
was sideswiped by a Dominion attack fighter. She managed to keep her ship under
control and remained in the fight until its bloody end.
With the war over and her squadrons command ship badly damaged from the
battle Ryoko and her squadron found themselves assigned to system defense and
mop up operations for the occupation of Cardassia Prime. The threat of attack
from rogue Dominion units was still high, and on several occasions her squadron
scrambled against incoming Dominion attack ships that attempted to make kamikaze
attack runs on the orbiting allied occupation fleet.
Early 2377 saw many of the occupation forces assets replaced with fresh
units and personnel. This included the USS Paladin and Ironclaw squadron. The
Paladin having remained in orbit since the final battle of the war still
retained a good deal of its battle scars. The old Ambassador Class cruiser put
into Vega shipyards for a major overhaul and refits. Ironclaw squadron stood
down and its pilots allowed extended shore leave after their long constant
vigilance over Cardassia and during the war.
At this time Ryoko was formally promoted to the rank of Commander and awarded three
months liberty, which she spent in its entirety on her home planet of Eden, with
her family, who she had not seen in person since the outbreak of the war in
2374.
Upon her return to active duty Commander Ryoko Jade was assigned to
command the 75th Aerospace Wing based off the new fleet carrier USS Iron Duke.
She only held command of the 75th for seven months before accepting reassignment
to the Advanced Research and Design facility based at Antaries shipyards where
she became a test pilot. She flew quite a few new prototype fighters that
Starfleet wished to employ within the fleet to replace the bulky and slow
handling Peregrin strike fighters.
It was in late 2379, while Ryoko was test pilot for the new prototype
Viper class interceptor fighter that she ran into trouble. During a routine test
flight around the systems asteroid belt a freak malfunction of the fighter’s
avionics systems caused the prototype craft to lose control and clip several
small asteroids. The fighter, on fire, fusion reactor going critical, spun
wildly out of control. Ryoko attempted to eject, but the ejector seat systems
failed and the fighter slammed into a larger asteroid with her still in it.
Debris from the fighter scattered all over the large rock, the back half tore
free and tumbled off into space, detonating moments later. Ryoko was left in the
wreckage, broken like a rag doll tossed into a meat
grinder.
Ryoko spent the next five months on Earth recovering. After the crash she
had been in a coma for seven weeks, and then as her injuries were repaired she
had been sent to Starfleet Medical for rehabilitation. Her career as a test
pilot and combat pilot was over. Her right foot had been severed in the crash,
her right leg shattered, knee pulverized. Her spine had been twisted and broken
in eleven places and that damage alone had all but killed her and almost
permanently paralyzed her. On top of those injuries were the internal injuries
and the mental scarring.
Ryoko spent an entire year in rehabilitation. Her career as a pilot was
over. Even after she was fully healed she would still suffer the effects of the
wounds from the crash. Even to this day she carries scars on her legs and back
and walks with a permanent limp and needs the aid of a cane. Her right foot,
though the latest in artificial cybernetics, is something she has never gotten
used to.
Starfleet Command offered her honorable discharge, but she refused. She
did not want to leave Starfleet and go home a broken woman. She wanted to
continue to aid in the development in the next generations of fighter craft and
other spacecraft for future pilots and crews. Ryoko requested engineering
training. She spent all of the time she could during her recovery back at the
Academy learning the fundamentals of starship and small craft engineering, warp
physics, structural engineering and iso-linear computer systems before returning
to Antaries shipyards.
Ryoko took up assignment as a project development lead for one of the
Research and Development departments new small craft development projects. The
project was a success, completed in mid 2381. Her success had given Starfleet a
new class of Work bee to employ in the fleet yards. The tackled two more
projects within the next year with such dedication and ferocity that she caught
the attention of more than a few officers at R&D and the corps of Engineers
back at Starfleet Command.
Near the end of 2382 Ryoko was promoted to the rank of Captain and
assigned to direct Research and Development at Starfleet Command, an achievement
she had never dreamed possible, especially after the demise of her piloting
career just a few years before. She held the position for a year before stepping
down and taking over the Hyperion Class development project, which she headed
for its final year before the new fleet carrier went into
production.
In 2384 with the Hyperion prototype under construction Ryoko turned over
project management and accepted general assignment in the fleet. It had been
years since she had served anywhere outside of either Starfleet Command or one
of the Sol system Naval Yards. She accepted assignment as Chief Engineer aboard
the Galaxy class Heavy Cruiser Corypheus and was soon on her next
adventure.

Reprimand History: Assault on an officer, 2367
Personal History & Origin:
Ryoko is a member of the Meltran race, an offshoot of the Human race. Her
home world, the planet Eden was originally a colony of Earth. The colonists had
arrived in the early 2100's. The people settled the planet and dismantled their
colony ship, the SS Meltran. It was not until they had been settled for some few
years that the first effects of the radiation generated by the planet's many
colorful rings became noticeable. Though not affecting the original colonists,
their children were born with slight genetic mutations, a changed arrangement of
internal organs, increased strength to the immune system and a wider variety of
hair and eye colors. No adverse effects were otherwise noted. The settlers had
left Earth with no intention of returning or staying in contact with the mother
planet.
It was not until 2357 that contact between Eden and Earth was
re-established. Eden then applied for Federation membership in 2360 and was
admitted on October 3, 2363.
Ryoko was born on September the second, 2345. She does not know who her
biological parents are. She was found abandoned as an infant in the back alley
behind a bar. After much debate and searching for her parents she was put into
foster care and soon adopted by her foster parents Fujimaro and Hitomi Jade. Her
adopted parents, who were unable to have children of their own raised Ryoko as
if she had been their biological child. Fujimaro and Hitomi owned a well
respected restaurant in the downtown of Eden's Capital City. Growing up around
a restaurant Ryoko learned to cook very well and enjoys to very
much.
Growing up in Eden's capital city, Landfall, Ryoko led a normal
childhood. She had many friends and was popular enough, but she never had any
dreams to do anything but take up work at the family restaurant when she came of
age. That was until her fifteenth birthday when her parents took her on an
intersystem shuttle flight to one of the orbiting space platforms high above
Eden. She got her first taste of space flight that day and knew that’s where she
wanted to be from that point on.
When she came of age, she had originally planned to enlist in the system
defense force as a shuttle or aerospace interceptor pilot. But with Eden’s
recent admission into the United Federation of Planets that same year Ryoko
decided to join Starfleet Academy. She was the first member of her people to do
so.
It took some time for her to adjust to life on Earth, the 'Mother world'
as her people called it. Though she was technically human, she was different and
none of her people had been seen on Earth before save for the handful of
diplomats who had visited to sign the formal treaties admitting her home planet
into the Federation.
